Jason Kirkness – EPK

Jason Kirkness is from the humblest of beginnings, growing up in the tiny prairie farming town of Kleefeld, MB. He grew up knowing he would be a musician and spent much of his young life fronting a touring classic rock/country/casino act and living his “Life on the Road”. His first tour dates as a solo artist stem back to 2007 when he was transitioning from his role as a career musician to becoming the country music recording artist he is today. Fast forward about a decade; with more then two full years as a resident of Music City, Nashville, TN, two full length albums, two EPs and a live album bringing Kirkness to the point where he’s ready to begin the third chapter in this storied life and career. After only three years of writing and recording, Kirkness signed his first label deal in 2010 with MDM Recordings and was with Universal and then EMI. It was during this time that he released four singles from his debut album "Life on the Road", including “Run Me Away,” “Send My Heart,” “No Cowboy” and the hit song “Leavin’.” Several of these songs have remained regional radio and club/bar staples. In 2013, Jason became an independent artist and began creating his second studio album. He was renting a second home in Nashville, TN and began working with producer, Sean Power, at the Hilson Studio. Traditionally, music in a Nashville studio is played live off the floor with a studio band, a vocal is then finished and the song is mixed. The pair looked more to a non-traditional approach layering the instruments one by one with Kirkness and Power playing the vast majority of the parts. By 2016 the vision for "A Beautiful Disaster" was complete and Jason was ready to release his most-accomplished work to date. "Take Your Picture", "It's What I Like About U" and the very successful "Whiskey Kiss" all became singles from this album and there was a limited release of Jason's version of Johnny Cash's "Folsom Prison Blues". He took on the roles of artist, label, manager, booking agent, and radio promoter all himself, frequently calling over a thousand radio stations a week. It was during this time he recieved 5 MCMA nominations (Best Artist twice, Album, Single and Video) and secured a main stage performances at Dauphin's Countryfest as well as Boots & Hearts and second stage performances at many festivals in North America including two years in a row at WYCD Hoedown in Detroit, MI. The last summer has seen Jason transition once again from opening act to co-headliner and headliner at some of the regional festivals and rodeo's in his home province of Manitoba, Canada. In addition to the catalogue of songs developed from the last 2 years, Jason is readying himself to spend the fall writing a new batch of songs in Nashville, Toronto and at home in Winnipeg, MB. He is heading to the studio to put together his next album and string of singles. #musicmonday this was always one of my favorites on the "Life on the Road" tour and album. Probably the most autobiographical at that time in my life as well. I've lived a lot in my time in this world and I feel really lucky that I made a career sharing my story and singing about it. Thank you for listening!! ❤JK
